John opened Byma's Tire and Auto with his late wife Trudy Byma in 1987. They had four children together, who have given John five grandchildren. John is now married to Agnes Byma and co-owns the store with his son David. His daughter Yvonne is the store's bookkeeper. John and family are very active members of the Community Christian Reformed Church.

David has been a licensed Class A Mechanic since 1999. He and his wife Jackie have one daughter. David is involved in stock car racing at Varney Speedway and is also a member of the Waterloo Business Exchange Team.
